How Octavia Spencer Lost Her Weight
What Octavia Spencer used for her magical weight loss
For movie fanatics out there, you probably remember Octavia Spencer in her award winning performance in The Help. Well not only is this forty six year old an incredible actress but she is a beauty as well thanks to her magical weight loss.
Since her starring The Help, this American actress, producer and author has also had roles in a number of projects including Insurgent and Instant Fam as well as having her voice in the animation Zootopia.
Having been impressive in the screens and winning an academy award for her role The Help, the American actress has recently turned heads by losing a whooping 2st 2lb and she looks amazing. Her incredible weight loss transformation has had people discussing in the corridors and whispering to each other how exactly she was able to pull it off.
Good thing the actress is not secretive about how she managed to lose all that weight and is willing to share. She has recently opened up to her social media followers about the diet that she used to slim down and have jaws dropping at her divaness for lack of a better word and pardon the English.
The magical weight loss has made the actress so confident that now she is able to show off her arms. She recently told her followers that she never really shows off her arms but would do so as a one off to show her tremendous transformation.
You might be thinking that that is little progress but believe me, any progress in the journey of weight loss is something to be proud of. If you are on the journey and see the difference in an old dress or loose fitting pants that used to be tight, it's worth shouting to the whole word and this is what Octavia chose to do. She chose to celebrate her magical weight loss with her fans on Instagram and even showed some arm proof.
The actress showed off her arms while on a lunch break in her trailer and I can only imagine the excitement that she was going through to warrant her running to Instagram at that time. In her post she continues to say that despite working out all the time, the cellulite in her arms had been there for several years and has not budged until recently. Now you can imagine the excitement of not showing off your arms for many years and then suddenly being able to do so. It is quite something isn't it?
In her post she goes on to tell her followers of the changes that she has made including perform inspired supplements, balanced nutrition and the right work outs. She also goes on to invite her followers to share their success stories irrespective of how small they are.

Body Building Diets Are Not Just About Taking Smaller Quantity of Calories

Furthermore, considering your lifestyle is essential because time restrictions can have a great impact on the way you want to accomplish your nutritional needs.
The Basics of Healthy and Nourishing Diet
Determining calories needed to achieve your desired objectives is one vital step to your diet budding. For example, if you desire to gain weight, you are expected to ingest a minimum of 250 to 500 extra calories above your maintenance level.
Your maintenance level is simply the calorie quantity at which you neither lose nor increase in weight. But if you want to lose weight, you will have to reduce intake by 250 - 500 calories. Then, you will want to share the sum on 5 - 7 meals for the whole day, once you establish quantity of calories you ought to be taking.
Diets Needed
Eating lean proteins, low glycemic carbohydrates, and healthy fats is a must for your body building. Examples of healthy diets include one tablespoon of olive oil, fresh broccoli, brown rice as well as lean chicken breast.
General Food Mythology
As a beginner to body building, you may think that you must avoid fats and carbohydrates. Actually, they are important to your accomplishment because carbohydrates help when it comes to fueling the development of the muscle due to restocking glycogen stores used up during workouts.
You must get it clear that your body would not have the power to build back your muscles if it lacks carbohydrates. Similarly, healthy fats are essential since they boost energy, metabolism, and maintain the levels of hormone.
Why Healthy and Nourishing Diet?
There are many benefits of sticking to firm foods for when it comes to building your body. For instance, you will experience fewer cravings, which will make your body fat level drop, which will in turn help you reduce the risk of many deadly conditions such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease among others.
Conclusion
Eating equal amount quantity of calories you burn and maintaining your weight is crucial to the success of your body building program. Nonetheless, eat more calories than you burn to add weight. Similarly, eat lesser calories than you burn for weight loss.
You must be familiar with the amount of calories you take per day, while having a menu for each day is a perfect idea. This is where you count all the numbers like fats, carbs, protein and calories. Documenting all will make you have a wide range of guidelines and plans.

NAD For Weight Loss
Our body is a magical mystery maze of chemical reactions governed by dictations from our DNA and yes - the daily choices we make.
We all understand our food choices and exercise impact our body fat levels, but we also need to understand more about our inner chemistry. As we have all learned the hard way - fat loss is NOT as simple as calories in and calories out!
By focusing on manipulating the edicts from our DNA - we can influence our chemistry to work with us, in our fat loss endeavors - not against us.
Our Goal: Taking the mayhem and cacophony that happens with daily living - and orchestrating our chemistry into a beautiful symphony.
We have all felt there are saboteurs lurking to spoil our fat loss efforts - it is true.
Here, we are going to talk about a big one - losing NAD.
Bottom line: NAD allows sugars, fats, and proteins to be converted into energy
Research on NAD for fat loss centers around the various building blocks of NAD, most importantly vitamin B3. Milk is a good source of B3. Don't just go and pop B3 supplements - there are various forms of B3. B3 in larger doses can cause side effects, even though it is a water soluble vitamin, and too much of the wrong form of B3 can be counter productive in the efforts to boost NAD.
NAD ( = nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is in every cell of the body and an absolute necessity for mitochondrial function - those power houses, or energy producers in our cells.
NAD decreases with age, but researchers agree NAD is #1 in the anti-aging process - as it dictates to turn off those genes that contribute to the aging process.
How do we lose NAD?
- Aging... a normal process of aging, is the dissipation of NAD - unless we step in a consciously set out to raise our NAD levels.
- Alcohol - also a major culprit in every aspect of aging ( no the resveratrol in red wine is minimal, and we cannot rationalize more wine to get more resveratrol)
- DNA alterations from lifestyle, medications... again unless we step in and consciously protect our DNA
- Lack of exercise - sedentary lifestyle - sitting is the new smoking
- Certain foods can decrease our levels over time - but certain foods can help increase our levels.
Sirtuins
Sirtuins (AKA longevity genes) are a group of 7 proteins that play a role in aging by regulating cellular health. Sirtuins must have a good supply of NAD. Sirtuins control DNA expression and aging, manage all things cellular... alas... if NAD levels are declining... so is cellular efficiency & productivity.
Fasting - often used as an effective tool in fat loss - maybe this is one of the reasons why: Fasting has been shown to increase NAD - which activates Sirtuins.
There is great hope in sirtuins research with cancer, metabolic issues, glucose metabolism, HIV & neurodegenerative disorders.
Clinically healthy yet obese people have shown to have lower NAD/Sirtuin levels in studies. Calorie restriction has shown to increase these levels, and to decrease oxidative stress (look at my many article on OS).
The Sirtfood Diet
Yes - there is a Sirtfood diet. It is also affectionately referred to as "hacking the skinny gene diet".
Sorry - I am not voting for it, as good as it sounds in theory.
The sirtfood diet combines calorie restriction and "Sirtfoods". I have no problem with the SIrtfoods (except for the red wine) because they are great foods for us to eat for many reasons: walnuts, olive oil, blueberries, coffee, turmeric...
Why do I put huge faith in the Sirtfood diet?
To eat enough of these foods to activate Sirtuin activity, well that would not at all be consistent with the calorie restriction aspect of the diet.
I am a big supporter of intermittent fasting for most people - if their physician agrees the person is a candidate for intermittent fasting. However a few things to keep in mind about calorie restriction, which is NOT intermittent fasting.
- When your body is calorie restricted, it uses up its emergency energy stores, or glycogen, also burning fat and muscle... never good to sacrifice muscle - the definition of biting your nose to spite your face!
- Glycogen usage releases the water it used for storage. This is "water weight."
- In the first week of extreme calorie restriction, only about one-third of the weight loss comes from fat, while the rest comes from water, muscle and glycogen,
- As soon as your calorie intake increases, your body replenishes its glycogen stores, and the weight comes right back. How miserable and de-motivating.
- body will often lower it's metabolic rate, which nobody wants- making it easier to gain weight in the future.
Yes. - we need to support our NAD production. NAD is a necessity for life. IV NAD infusions have been successfully used for a number of years now by athletes to increase performance & recovery naturally, people for anti aging, opioid & alcohol addictions, depression & anxiety, energy, PTSD, chronic fatigue, DNA repair and neurodegenerative disorders. Finding more ways to increase NAD and lower oxidative stress - are the true keys to living a proactive, healthy lifestyle.

Take Ownership of Your Health: Hold Yourself Accountable
Over the years, I've conducted extensive research on health topics such as obesity, osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease. I have also studied theories of behavior change. What jumps out at me the most is how many of these conditions are preventable. Yes, there are non-modifiable factors however, it is our behaviors that are causing damage to our health and wellness. Essentially, we are all aware of our unhealthy behaviors and the consequences associated with them. I feel like I'm a misfit in society because I actually enjoy physical activity, going to the gym and pushing my body to its limits. I was also criticised heavily because it took me nearly two weeks to finishing watching the third season of Stranger Things. Let that sink in. We live in a society where it is the norm to watch an entire season of a television series over a weekend, let alone one day and this is completely acceptable, even encouraged. I feel like I have to justify why I don't binge watch television, why I wake up early to exercise and why I restrict processed foods (among many other ingredients) from my diet.
My reason is simple, I do it for my health. Health is a priority to me and I want to face the daily challenges of life with the least amount of pain, discomfort and illness as possible. I'm not a machine, I get sick on occasion and I have a history of injuries. I watch television and movies and I'm known to indulge in a meal or snack of the unhealthy variety on occasion. I try to keep my immune system optimal and reduce my risk of injury through strength and flexibility training. Let's examine exercise. Most of us know that it is beneficial to our health, not just physically but emotionally as well. Increased levels of physical activity have the potential to lower the risk of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease (among many more) according to multiple sources. We know that being inactive increases the risk of the mentioned conditions, yet many of us choose to do nothing about it. There is a disconnect between what we know and what we do. Do we not prioritize our health and quality of life? Do we get distracted with the ease of technology and everything available at the touch of a button? Do we know how many deaths can be prevented each year by modifying our behaviors?
So much of what we experience is preventable if we take the necessary precautions. We don't have to wait until we get diagnosed to make a change. We can make changes so that we don't get diagnosed. We do have the time if we make it a priority. We can find a plethora of excuses why we don't exercises of we can focus on reasons why we should. I can honestly say that I am 100% responsible for all of the injuries I've sustained in my lifetime. Whether it was negligence, ignorance or ego, I was at fault and I take full ownership of that. Now let's take ownership of our health and strive for progression.

Weight Gain From Fear and Worry - 3 Simple Solutions
The Amish consider worrying a sin! Makes sense to me, since worry, and fear as its evil twin, can only cause trouble and definitely weight gain. You probably know by now that when you are super stressed out, your cortisol levels hit the roof. Then, you want to eat more of the kinds of food that generally cause weight gain-carbs and sugars.
After eating all those carbs and sugars, how do you feel? Relaxed at first, but over the next few minutes (not just guessing here-I know from personal experience-you likely feel more stressed, right? Guilt is a kicker and I would say that definitely fits In with worry and fear as cortisol instigator.
So, how do you keep yourself from worry and fear? It's nearly impossible not to react with worry or fear at times, but you can try several things that may help you:
1. Herbs and other supplements. For example, Holy Basil (or Tulsi Tea) really helps calm my nervous system. It's supposed to be especially good for those of us who have abandonment issues like adoption (I was seven years old when adopted, so had lots of issues from before that time).
Some supplements, like B-12 vitamins and some amino acids, like tryptophan, may work well for you.
Be sure to check with your doctor, chiropractor, or other health practitioner.
2. Keeping the body aligned with good chiropractic or osteopathic care makes a world of difference! I had a friend who told me she knew when her atlas vertebrae was "out," since that's when she felt sick to her stomach and so depressed that she wanted to kill herself! She would never have done that, but it gave her a clue. Then, after her adjustment, she was her normal, happy self again!
3. Most Important: Remember you have a choice! Immediately shift to gratitude. Quickly think of the things that are going Right in Your Life! For example, my car needed an expensive repair. I started to worry and feel stressed until I realized that life had already given me a great solution. I had a speaking gig that would cover the expense! Yes, I had earmarked that money to pay some debt, but I could always do that later. The thing that was going Right in My Life was that I had a solution before I even had the problem.
It's been proven that most of the things we worry about never even occur! So relax and enjoy the ride.
